Is this you?

This course is for you if…

You didn't go into nursing for the system. You went in for the patients. If any of these resonate, you're in the right place.

You're feeling the pull to leave

Institutional nursing has given you a career — but you're wondering what it would feel like to do this work without competing priorities pulling you away from patients.

You've always been the advocate

In every role you've held, you've been the nurse who stays a little longer, asks the extra question, and makes sure nothing falls through the cracks.

You want to work for patients — not institutions

You've watched patients get lost in a system that wasn't designed for them. You know what it would mean to have someone in their corner who truly understands it.

You're curious — but not sure where to start

Independent patient advocacy sounds right, but you have questions: Is this a real career? Can I make a living? What would I actually do every day? This course answers them.

The curriculum

Nine modules. One complete picture.

Each module is taught by Karen Sanders — registered nurse, board-certified advocate, and the educator who has helped more nurses transition into advocacy than anyone in the field.

1

Introduction to Holistic Patient Advocacy

Understand what independent patient advocacy really is, who it serves, and why your nursing background makes you the most qualified person in the room to do it.

2

The Patient Experience

See the healthcare system through a patient's eyes — the fear, confusion, and powerlessness that shape every clinical encounter — and learn why that perspective is your most powerful advocacy tool.

3

The Independent Practice Model

Learn how independent advocacy practices are structured, how advocates are compensated, and explore the full range of niches where your clinical background could take you.

4

Seeing the Whole Person

Move beyond the chart with a holistic assessment framework that surfaces what the medical record doesn't capture — and changes everything about how you advocate.

5

Navigating the Healthcare System

Hospital hierarchies, insurance mazes, prior auth appeals, care transitions, specialist coordination — a complete guide to the navigation skills that make RN advocates irreplaceable.

6

The Art of Advocacy Communication

Learn to communicate across the most complex relationships in healthcare — with resistant physicians, conflicting families, and frightened clients — with confidence, clarity, and care.

7

Ethics, Scope & Boundaries

Build the ethical foundation your practice will stand on — scope of practice, professional boundaries, confidentiality, conflicts of interest, and knowing when to refer.

8

Building a Practice You Love

Define your niche, identify your ideal client, understand pricing, and design a practice that is financially sustainable and personally meaningful — from the very beginning.

9

Your Next Step

Consolidate everything you've learned and look clearly at the path forward — including the Full Program and the October 2026 cohort.

FAQ

Questions? Here are the ones we hear most.

Do I need to have a specific nursing specialty to benefit from this course?

Not at all. Patient advocates come from every nursing background — hospital bedside, home health, oncology, case management, primary care, and more. Your clinical experience, whatever its focus, is the foundation this work builds on. The course will help you see which advocacy niche might be the best fit for your particular background.

How long will it take to complete the course?

Each module runs approximately 14–16 minutes, so the full video content is roughly two and a half hours total. Most students complete the course over one to two weeks, taking time between modules to work through the worksheets. You can move faster or slower — lifetime access means there's no pressure.

Is this the same as the Full Program?

No. This introductory course is designed to give you a thorough, honest picture of what independent patient advocacy is — and whether the Full Program makes sense for you. The Full Program is a deeper, cohort-based training that builds on everything covered here. Module 9 walks you through exactly what the program involves and how to apply.

Can I make a living as an independent patient advocate?

Yes — Module 3 and Module 8 address this directly. Independent advocacy is a growing field, and experienced nurses who enter it thoughtfully, with a defined niche and a clear referral strategy, consistently build sustainable practices. This course gives you the context to evaluate that realistically for your own situation.

What if I'm not sure this is the right path for me?

That's exactly what this course is for. By the end of Module 9, you'll have a clear, informed sense of whether patient advocacy aligns with your skills, your values, and the kind of practice you want to build. If it does, you'll know your next step. If it doesn't, you'll have spent $97 to find that out — far less costly than a misdirected career pivot.

The patients who need you are already out there.

Your clinical knowledge. Your systems fluency. Your instinct for what matters. There is a career that puts all of it to work — entirely on behalf of the people who need it most.
